What is Microsoft® .NET Framework?
.NET is a framework developed by Microsoft to create and distribute software that runs on Microsoft Windows®. Segment Checker requires installation of .NET. The setup wizards guide you through the installation process.
How do I load more instruments in the Device Tree?
Segment Checker includes all FOUNDATION™ fieldbus H1 devices that are approved by default. Import and Export functions are available from the Segment Checker menus to include third-party libraries. A device editor is available to create custom devices.
What is the reason for "Not Specified" in the select segment type?
The first choices you make when opening a new project are the fieldbus protocol, the hazardous location with type of ignition protection if any, where the fieldbus segment is installed. Segment Checker populates the device tree with equipment relevant for the environment chosen. If you want full manual control over device selections select “Not specified”.
Important: Segment Checker only checks the viability of the design by calculating load conditions with the equipment specified. You are responsible for keeping international and local rules for installation and to achieve explosion protection.
What is short-circuit checking?
It is good engineering practice to permit one short circuit condition at a spur. With this option, Segment Checker reports voltage levels and load currents with one short circuit in effect at the location that would produce the worst possible outcome.
What is the handheld tool check?
Handheld tools such as bus monitors can draw a load current from the segment. This check validates electrical conditions with this extra load, giving a very accurate picture on long and critical cable distances.
Where can I get a detailed report on my project?
You will find an analysis of your project by clicking on the “Project Report” tab located at the bottom of the drawing.
What does a module highlighted in red mean?
This indicates that the Segment Checker software has detected a condition in your design that violates design criteria specified in the fieldbus standard IEC 61158-2. View the “Error log” tab or right click on the instrument and select "view error log" from the menu options.
How do I specify the part to be considered the trunk?
It is important to identify the trunk through placement of the terminators. The trunk is specified as the electric connection between two terminators. Terminators are typically located on the power supply and the last wiring interface.
